I had cause to go into Alf’s today so remembered I said I would take a photo of the inside.
This is what you see as you come in the door. The counter is on the left where the square is on the floor. To the right are four aisles one behind the other until you get to the far end where the rat poison, hen mash etc is stored.
I went in for some black Stove & Grate polish for the wood burner.
Three good things:
1. I took various stuff we have decided we don’t want anymore to my friends house. Her church is picking it up for a charity shop they have. I’m glad because the towns charity shops are only taking a bit at the moment.
2. A bit clearer rules for Covid...the rule of six. Only six people allowed to meet up inside & outside. Fined if you disobey!
3. We can see Blackpool Tower in the distance every night from our kitchen windows in all its colourful illumination lights.
So many treasures - we have a little shop on the indoor market that is full to the brim of all sorts of things - and funnily enough is called Aladin's cave
This reminds me of 'dammit, I forgot it shops'. Splendid!
Wonderfully evocative of times past...and l know a hardware shop in the Isle of Man...that would make a good 'partnership' for this one.
@beryl Good title.... I’m actually not sure what this is called...it’s known as Alfs because he owned it before he died, his wife & daughter run it now. Must check up on outside photo!
@s4sayer That’s a great name... just the title as you go in for any little thing you need, sometimes I feel guilty if I only spend a couple of pounds on a light bulb.
This is just like the one in Alexandra that closed down! Imagine clearing all this up! In this sort of shop you would spend more time trying to find something as well as looking at what is there!
My favourite kind of shop! I have to go in and have a rummage! I love the smell of hardware shops - not sure what it is. Wherever I visit on my travels if I see a shop like this I am there - and yes I probably buy something I didn’t know I needed! Lol!
@gijsje I didn’t actually watch it yesterday....I was taking the stuff to charity shop. It’s on in afternoon here so can’t always watch it...it will be repeated numerous times but can watch it on Catch Up.
. Should find what ever you need here..
Btw. Just watched The Repair Shop on BBC. Enjoyed it.

I guess it's the new series: a barber chair, an old clock etc.
