A precious child

I went to watch Charlie’s funeral this afternoon.
So many people were there & the village was decked with blue heart balloons & every lamp post had blue ribbons fluttering.
It was all relayed by speakers to us listening in the churchyard.
Charlie’s parents & brothers were very brave, I don’t know how they did it but must feel numb.
Nicki has been writing lots of poetry in the nights she can’t sleep while Charlie has been ill. She read a nine verse poem she had composed....only one falter...such courage.
I will add here the last verse:

I love you from your head to your toes,
I love you more than you know,
I love you to the moon & back
again, again & again & again.

I know lots of you have followed Charlie’s progress so thought you might like to know how this young life was celebrated to the end.
A beautiful last verse. I am sure that all the others were as wonderful.

How terribly, terribly sad, Pat. It puts small issues and concerns into perspective. A young life taken far too soon. RIP precious Charlie.

Oh Pat, don’t we all wish families never had to go through this.

Oh what a tragic loss for the family. And how brave of her to read out one of her poems. What a lovely way to remember their precious son.

So young it's tragic. Hopefully all the support will be helpful.

The whole poem was amazing....dad spoke a lot too.....his school friends all walked behind carrying blue heart shaped balloons.

What a lovely tribute to such a brave wee boy.. Yes his family will be feeling very numb and will be hard to get back on track as everything has centred around coping with his illness.. 💕

So tragic - the family will appreciate all the support they have had and seeing so many friends and neighbours there today must have lifted their hearts - just a little .

The family's grief must be immeasurable. A sweet young life so tragically ended. I know in time memories of Charlie will bring them smiles. But now I know their hearts are broken and joy seems very distant. My heart hurts for them.

Oh what a lovely tribute. I feel as though all of us on 365 know Charlie. What a brave boy and family too. Such an emotional end to a tragic life.

Expected but heartrending. How does a parent go on?

What a journey the family must have been through. Such a sad thing, hoping they find peace and comfort.

Yes three years of worry & hope gained then receding. I met my friend this morning & she said they were all overwhelmed at the support they had been given...she said they were all shattered today. I told her everyone was so sorry.

Such a sad time they’ve had - a short life filled with love - how brave they’ve all had to be. It must be a huge comfort to know that the whole village is embracing them.
