@phil_howcroft a race is what they call the track that goes between tthe fields from the milking shed & farm buildings. As you can see they are quite wide & in good order. Because the cows are out all year round they need good roads for movement of stock all year round. The cows are moved very regularly every day of the year to a different part of the field.
I love this Pat. My folk farmed in Northern Ireland and I've often followed cows along a lane. Your grandson's race is much better. My 1st husband's mother came from Tottenham and when she came home with us way back in the 60s the cows terrified her!
