I didn't know I had up loaded this so am adding words now.
Day two we visited the World Trade Centre site.
Very moving it was too......very quiet & respectful atmosphere. It took your breath away to actually see this place.
It realy brought it home to you the scale of that dreadful morning we all so vividly remember.
There is still massive building work going on around that area, more spectacular tower blocks to replace adjacent buildings that were demolished for safety reasons.
A massive new travel hub is being developed to take you to every corner of New York including JFK Airport.
We saw the Survivor Tree which has been nurtured & replaced on site as a visible reminder.
I bought a book from a guy on the street which I wish I had read before I went...it gives you things to look at with more informed eyes such as St Paul's church which was used as a centre for the relief workers & Brook Brothers store used as a mortuary.
So interesting to see and hear about this as we went just the year after it happened and of course none of this here. I love your beautiful shot and the rose. Did you go in the church, it detailed the events and was really moving too.
@jennywren No we didn't, it was only afterwards I realised how important the church was....you could really soend a lot of time round this place...the museum would be good but we were rather restricted with time.
Looks like it's opened up a lot more since our trip. We had big queues to get in. It was very moving and my sister's godfather was given an award because he was chairman of the company that helped to do a lot of the dreadful & difficult clearance work. I found the water running into oblivion rather morbid and upsetting.
