Sun trap by happypat

Sun trap

This is our little back lane that runs along behind Alberts Cottage where we are staying.

I am very taken with these plants with the red flowers. I know they are quite a common flower but for the life of me I can't remember the name.
Any one help?
They seem to grow in any wild place, along the banks of the River Cam yesterday & in any nook & cranny here in Wells.
They would be ideal for the wild places under our trees in the front garden.
Sorry I can't help with the name, but it looks such a sunny spot!

I'm no use either but will watch with interest. You just have to go down this narrow pathway!

A lovely place to be staying - maybe @julzmaioro can identify the flowers.

Beautiful. It looks quite Mediterranean. I hope you're enjoying a glass of wine there in the sunshine.

I think it is called Centranthus ruber.. not sure what the common name is but it is very worth while to have in the garden.. Good one to look out for @dide

@julzmaioro Have checked & you're right Julz! Thank you very much. Just been reading up & disappointed to find it needs sunshine so out for my shady front garden! Seems to love light chalky well drained soils & coastal positions so no wonder it's doing so well here!

Such a lovely cottage garden feel -- I have been racking my brain and going through the alphabet to try and remember this plant -- but I see you have got the answer -- common name " red valerian " also known as "Pretty Betty "

A beautiful sun trap. What a difference a country makes. In the UK they sit in the sun, in Australia we sit in the shade.

@onewing Yes we are pretty stupid Babs but the sun is a treat to us! Mind you the chair there is where I moved it out of the full sun as it was too hot so I am getting sense!

That flower grows like a weed in our front garden - I got stung by a bee pulling it out in June so decided to leave it alone - but there would be nothing else if we left it. Doesn't grow at all in the back which faces north...

@judithg I bought a couple of these plants only white ones Judith but they seem to have just wilted & do t look at all well! They loved so beautiful & natural in the sun in Wells! They love the sun so makes sense they don't like your north back garden.
