Common names include Strelitzia, Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise, though these names are also collectively applied to other species in the genus Strelitzia. Its scientific name commemorates Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of the United Kingdom, wife of H.M. King George III. I didn't know this...

I like this plant Valerie and am quite I tried by how it got its name. Of course her husband was known as Farmer George as he was very involved in agriculture and improving it so I suppose she might have had an interest in plants

Mine always looks sick and rarely flowers, yet they grow really well next door :(

@merrelyn This plant gets LOTS of sun. You could transplant it in the cooler weather.
