Cliff Palace by harbie

Cliff Palace

The largest Ancient Puebloan (Anasazi Native American) ruins in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. They lived here 1400 years ago. There are about 150 rooms and 23 kivas for a population of about 100-150. These ruins are situated below the above mesa in an alcove in the cliff wall of a valley. They believe the people originally lived on the mesa but for some reason, probably for protection, moved to these alcoves for approximately 700 years before leaving the area to head more south to New Mexico and Arizona (1200 AD) . Cliff Palace was a social, administrative, and ceremonial site. These ruins are amazing! Best on black. Thank you for viewing!!
Awesome capture and great history! Fav!

Did you go on the tour?

That's cool. With no one in sight, it is very hard to see the scale of this place, at first glance it looks like a model, and not life size.
