Well, Annie, my youngest (16 1/2 yrs), left to spend a year as a foreign exchange student in Flensburg, Germany. I am excited for her, but definitely shed tears yesterday as a year seems like such a long time. I go between being excited and sad. I do feel better since I know that she arrived there safely, said that her host family is very nice, and she has already gone sailing with her host family. Sometimes it is so hard letting go. I would never have been brave enough to do this as a junior in high school so I am very proud of her.
That is a long time! I can say that spending a few years in Germany, when I was young, was the best thing I ever did! She's going to be a better person for it.
That's quite a long way from home. My youngest spent an exchange year in Finland when she was just 17. She had a fantastic family there and she came home after a year, speaking fluently Finnish (a very, very difficult language).
@epcello@gijsje@bokehdot@annepann@777margo Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! It really helped and I am excited to hear from her and and about her experiences!! :)
