Romanesque Symbolism by harvey

Romanesque Symbolism

This is from right outside the doorway to the wonderful Saint Jakobskirche right near our Apt. It is a Romanesque cathedral built between 1165 and 1215. These guys are under the figure of a saint right above theme, symbolizing the tortures of hell (below the church) to the masses. I think this guy had something to do with gluttany.

I finally had some more time to finish up the shots from my scandanavia trip, check the latest ones out starting at http://365project.org/harvey/365/2010-05-21
but the trip starts at http://365project.org/harvey/365/2010-05-12
Really interesting figures! I love how some of the older churches tell stories along their facades.

Oh my gosh--how cool is this? Horrid premise, but the statue is really cool! I'd love to see a close-up of the detail. Fave
