Looking Back

First off I'm sorting through the 300 shots I took at the pole-vaulting yesterday, that will be coming soon!

On September 1st 2008 my wonderful wife and I left our familes behind and arrived in Germany with 4 suitcases containing the contents of our lives. This was not an easy step to make, but I love my wife for having the courage to take it with me, and I knew that together we could tackle anything. This is the University guest house where we stayed for one month when we first arrived. We waged the apartment wars of Aachen and ended up finding a perfect apartment right in the historical center of Aachen and two years later we are both happily working here, have made great friends, are fluent in German and have seen much that Europe has to offer. I wanted to take todays shot to reflect back on that day we arrived two years ago so full of enthusiasm but also secrectly wondering if we made the right decision. It was not the easy road we took but it was certainly the right one. We have not been back to the US since we arrived so this marks two years of being outside the US as well.
Beautiful building!

Great story, nice photo. I can't imagine living abroad - it must have been tough at times. I'm glad you seem to have found happiness there. Germany must be beautiful!

You were courageous to strike out as you did. I have enjoyed reading your blog entries to follow your experiences. Is this a permanent move?

It will be such a culture shock when you do return to the US for a visit. It's a really weird feeling.
