Hard Work Pays Off

These are some concord grapes from the one really nice row of grapes on my parents farm. When they bought the extremely run down old farm in 2002 there was one GIANT mound of grape vines that had not been trimmed in what looked like 30 years. We first attaked them somewhat with a chainsaw as they had grown into a chain-link fence we removed. The next year I made it my personal project to try and reclaim the grapes. I carefull traced certain vines back and determined which were the main roots. We then trimmed everything back except for these main shoots and I then installed some real grape vine lines, i.e. poles with wire strung between them. Now my mom trims the grapes yearly and they are all mature along they new proper lines now and we have a wonderful concord grape harvest every year. Although we haven't made wine, yet!
This is gorgeous! I love concord grapes, and this shot reminds me of when I was little. Our neighbor had some grapevines and he could never use all the grapes, so he invited us to come pick some, and my dad and I would make grape jelly. I remember the way it would make the whole house smell... so delicious! Thanks for the nice trip down memory lane.
