Aachen Münsterplatz by harvey

Aachen Münsterplatz

Yesterday morning we had a great coating of snow on everything and I took a long time getting to work as I was taking some shots in the town center. I wanted to capture this view of the cathedral with lots of snow on it focusing on the choir hall end, and I parked myself here for a few minutes waiting for the right person to walk by. I really like the panorama result, but if I had to do it over again I would have waiting just a wee bit longer so the mother and the carriage enters that empty space between the christmas market booths and that stone tower. Oh well, I still like the result and it gives me something to work on for my street photography.

Also that little stone tower on the left is where I was sitting when I took my street shot on sunday. http://365project.org/harvey/365/2010-11-28

It looks so imposing!! Wicked shot, really good - and it would be real sinister if it wasnt for the mother and child :-)

Absolutely fantastic perspective. The dome seems really overwhelming that way!

You seem to be enjoying this challenge.....the cathedral is so imposing and the city so bleak. How did they ever build these amazing places back in the middle ages?? Just finshed watching Pillars of the Earth about the building of Winchester cathedral.....it took generations, amazing!

Fabulous! The choice of black and white makes it that much more effective!

@cherrill yeah I read that book early last year and gained such a better appriciation for these beautiful structures that were built so long ago!

In that case, you might like Edward Rutherford's Sarum about the building of Salisbury cathedral....now that spans centuries!

@cherrill Thanks! Actually that book got me interested in trying to find some more decent medevil fiction, although I only found 'the name of the rose' which never grabbed my interest and I didn't finish it. Any other suggestions I read alot of books! :)

This is really great. I haven't done many street shots. I'll watch yours and learn.

The colors and texture of this in b/w are fantastic. I really like the angle too. It makes the structure look so imposing.

This is an awesome-looking shot.

Magnificent...I relate to the 'what if' on the timing of things...but it's part of the learning or patience process I guess.

Absolutely love this. Nice shot. I think the people work in this shot. Keeps it in the thirds rule of the photo, my eye goes to them. Again, well done.

Stunning photo--the B&W and snow just adds to the beautiful architecture. You have the nicest buildings there.
