We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo. What about you, you, you....

I took a school group to Twycross Zoo today. I loved looking at the animals, the meerkats were very photogenic but I have chosen this photo as the contrast between the lines of the tiles and the giraffe's own markings appeals to me. I also like the pop art feel of the colours.
I read a wonderful description of a giraffe in 'Water for Elephants'... if I can find it I'll share it here, I think you'd like it! Wonderful shot, especially against that bluey green - giraffes seem such gentle, unworldly creatures.
So got to be a Fav from me. My first job after leaving university in the mid '80's was in the education department at Twycross Zoo (a dream job for a zoologist - shame about the pay tho!) Our 'office' was a portakabin next to the giraffe enclosure and on those dreary, wet winter days when there were about 5 visitors all day I sometimes used to hang out in there and the giraffes became quite tame and used to lean over the barrier and lick my hand. Giraffes are just my fav animal (even more so than donkeys!)
This is fantastic! I just have to say that so far our of all the pics I've seen this is my all time fav! I would fave it over and over again if I could.
Thanks for bringing back such lovely memories
