Faces of War

The United States Civil War is the first time there was a significant photographic record documenting life during Wartime. The images of the time are both mundane and haunting at the same time. We visited the battlefield at Gettysburg this past week and I couldn't get past the faces of the soldiers that I saw all around me. Taken out of context they look so familiar - like people you may know... These faces could be right out of the local paper - your friends on Facebook! Times may change, but I think on some level people never do....
Nice shot! I went to an exhibit recently of Civil War photographs and was, like you, haunted by their faces. And many were so young and never made it home....
