“Even today, I hunt for the fabulous books that will change me utterly. I find myself happiest in the middle of a book which I forget that I am reading, but am instead immersed in a made-up life lived at the highest pitch.”
― Pat Conroy, My Reading Life
Learned today that one of my favorite authors has died. I've never met Pat Conroy, but through his books I felt as if I knew him, like he was an old friend. So my sadness at his passing feels strangely personal. So many times his words on the page felt so familiar, so true. Like the ones in my head - only so much more poetic and impressive.... His writing has probably had more of an impact on me than any other author that I can think of, so he and his words will be greatly missed.
Nice tribute shot. I loved "The Water is Wide" which I read after seeing the movie (I almost always like the book better, and this was no exception.) I'll have to read another of his books. Sad that a great talent is gone. . . .
