Okay a day late (who is surprised?) but here is the little Sandpiper's friend. After a fair amount of research (we had to wait until we got home to google - no wifi at the lake...) we've decided it is a Juvenile Hooded Merganser. We saw him a lot over the course of the week and his head definitely varied in height fluffiness - giving him the "hood" look. It definitely fluffs up more as they get older. Here, not so fluffy though... Cool little guy?...girl?...uh, birdie! :-)
