St Paul's Church was originally a small chapel built by a Portugese captain, Duarto Coelho in 1521 and was called "Nosa Senhora" (Our Lady Of Hill) during Portugal colonization in Melaka.
It was renamed to St. Paul's Church when the Dutch defeated Portugese in 1641 to colonize Melaka and it is used for 112 years as a worship place until it was taken over by the British in 1826 which used it as a storage for gunpowder.
The building now preserves a number of historic Portuguese and Dutch tombstones inside the ruins which bear silent testimony to the final resting place of several Dutch & Portugese nationals.
