It is just four days until 250, 000 visitors descend on the half mile stretch of river from the bottom of the road where I live, to the town bridge. That is nearly 100,000 more visitors than the whole population of the town. We are preparing to baton down the hatches as the hoards descend. It is the bi-annual River Festival this coming week end.
The food wagons are already arriving, workmen have been busy today constructing two additional bridges along the stretch of River, and flood lights sit in the park ready to be erected.
Tonight I need a calming influence. So rather than my pictures of the activity I describe, I choose this evening picture of the river - still itself - as the day light fades. With thanks to those before me who have matched their photography with music, I am borrowing their idea. So if you would like a bit of Beethoven's moonlight sonata - listen here
(The sonata is the first LP I ever bought and one that I learned to play eventually on Mum's piano. It would have been her birthday this week - so all the more fitting a piece of music from my point of view)
A perfect photo for a perfect piece of music. Moonlight Sonata is one of my favourites.
You will have ring side seats for the riverside festival. Hope the weather stays fine.
@stevecameras thank you. It is a very popular event with plenty going on. The main stage was being put up today - and strangely I thought of you and all your pre-event posts!
@ethelperry we will be quite in the thick of it. But it is only once every two years, and we can come and go and have a cup of tea without paying whenever we please. So I musn't complain. Thanks for your visits and comment.
@moonmtn They don't come for the beauty Kashia at the River Festival. It is all music and community and beer and food and floats and processions etc. The beauty is there before, and after! Thanks for your comment.
@onewing thanks Babs - we don't even need to leave the house to experience the festival. I'm sure I will be reporting more. Glad you like the music. It really is a beautiful piece. I wish I was still able to play competently.
@paulmann thank you Paul - glad you liked this one. The visitors have not yet arrived but they will have been and gone by Monday morning. Then we and the environment can all recover.
That is a wonderfully well-composed, soothing piece of music... So classic and beautiful. That is a lot of craziness about to happen for you all... I'm glad you can find those calming moments Helen. A very beautiful shot to accompany the music!
