I am on a bit of an exploration now, looking to frame subjects in shadows. And yet I still have so much to share from over the last week when I went a bit stir crazy with the camera.
Today, I spotted three places of strong shadows which would have made the perfect frame. I then waited in vain for something or someone to walk into the frame. Alas, at 33 degrees heat, I can assure you that where there was shade to be had, it was sought out and followed by every pedestrian in sight. My frames remained empty - so I made a bit of a collage with them this evening to keep me entertained. (Maybe it is time for me to go ace and create a second album - but you guys already have so much to look at).
Anyway, here is one from last week in the build up to the festival. I think I have used shadow to frame these two swans successfully - although perhaps not in the style of Fan Ho, and as I love the colours here so much, I really don't want to turn it into a B&W image.
PS I am all over the place with this project at the moment - not knowing which way to turn or how to proceed. I'm also suffering short memory - someone suggested a challenge (was it ONS which looks v interesting but I'm not there, clearly) and I can't find that comment anymore. So, please, I am sorry for apparently ignoring you. Too many things, ideas, etc going on in my head and not much of it coming to fruition. Thanks to all for sticking with me.
I just love this, Helen. fav. re your PS, I think the heat has a searing effect on keeping a clear head. We have heatwaves a lot, and I often can do no more than lie down with a wet towel on my head and a fan blowing on me. Look under "Discuss" and troll down until you find the ONS11 challenge. I like it because there is no judging - just having a bit of fun with other like minded people joining in. No need to post every topic as you can dip in and out as you please.
Lovely composition, well thought out. I love it.
Don't stress about 365, just enjoy. It doesn't matter when you took a photo, just post the ones that you like regardless of when it was taken.
I have ace membership and I did do a theme subject each month in my second album, but now I just post a photo a day. Too many other things to do.
I love this. It's one of those shots where I cant decide what the subject is.....is it the shadow or is it the swans????mmmm???? brain teaser. A brilliant idea.
@janemartin or is it the reflection of the shadow and the swans? I have found the theme I was looking for and that was kindly drawn attention to by @kerosene. Yesterday's ONS was reflections - I wont tag it though because it wasn't taken yesterday, but it sort of fits the bill!
@fotoblah@onewing@taffy@moonmtn many thanks - I am so glad you like it. I find it really interesting to discover which posts people warm to and which are take it or leave it!
@onewing thank you Babs. You are right and interesting what you say about the second album. Which ever way I go, I know I am getting a lot more practice and slowly improving with the camera, even though some days just don't seem to yield much I am still alert to thinking about opportunities. All good.
@helenhall I apologize for not having been around too much these last few days! I would absolutely have indicated where to find the challenge :) but you have many things to juggle now, and no worries! I think working on shadow framing and Fan Ho type photography is perfect!
Super shot Helen. The shadow of that thing on the left (whatever it is) provides a nice "stop" as the eye moves left. Agree about the reflection of the shadows
