Not quickly broken

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

When we got engaged 30 years ago, my husband and I decided to have our rings made by a jeweller friend of my parents. We based them on the above verse. My engagement ring and wedding ring join together to form one ring - representing three strands. Michael's ring also has three strands - the middle one representing a chord.

At different times over the years the rings have felt tight and constraining, loose and vulnerable, or more often a comfortable fit. At one stage early on in our marriage we were walking along a beach and I suddenly realised that my wedding ring was no longer on my finger. We retraced our many steps back along to the edge of the sea, looking for the ring in vain. We then returned along the same route, still searching until we were back to where I realised it had gone. In my upset and frustration I kicked into an abandoned sand castle where we were standing, and there, exposed from within the sand pile was a glittering of shiny gold. it was my ring and has been all the more precious to me since lost and found!

Maybe the story above mirrors some of the real story of our marriage, but we are a chord of three strands and still holding strong.

All this....because I thought I would have a go at a jewellery macro. I may have just ended up with a wrinkly hand macro. Ha!
What a lovely story - was pleased you found your wedding ring. I have a similar story but unfortuntely did not find mine. But still (even though I have had it replaced) I still look in the hope that it will surface. it will be 47 for us this September. Lovely shot.

Very nice ring Helen, and what a wonderful story... I do find it a bit funny you kicked into an abandoned sand castle to release your frustration! :)

I love your narrative. We just celebrated our 32nd. anniversary, and like you and your beloved, the ups and downs and twists and turns have made the cords of our marriage stronger than we ever thought possible.
And personally, I think that wrinkles are awesome. They are such a testament to life. They tell the story of a home cared for, loved ones caressed, a job attended, and all of the ups and downs life gives us.
