I talked about the Barley Mow and the prison yesterday. Having accidentally deleted the one shot I took today (just how did that happen?) I decided to deliver a continuation on yesterday's theme.
One of the things I have learnt from this project is that a lot can be done with an uninspiring photograph to add interest and give it new life. So I took a look at one I had written off yesterday as unappealing and got to work on it. I persevered because I liked that I had captured the woman pausing for thought on the corner by the Barley Mow and staring at the prison walls.
Talking of salvaging a photo, I really felt an idiot yesterday when I took a passport style shot of a colleague to make an ID badge for her. In my utter distaste at doing photos to order, I rushed into the shot without using flash or having suitable lighting and the best I could make of the result was a pop-art portrait - which I have to say, she rather liked. It was back to the drawing board today and thank goodness I got an acceptable ID card made!
If the sky is blue tomorrow, maybe I will be back to that carpark to recompose today's lost shot.
Excellent decisive moment. I imagine this in a book as a an end of chapter illustration. Or, with apologies to The Clash, and :), as the cover art for a parody single "Should I Stay or Should I Mow?".
Wonderfully shot Helen, and I do like the processing!! Interesting how a shot that you'd think is 'oh-hum' gets a whole new life once you've given it a little bit of time... This project had taught me this too. :)
@fotoblah many thanks. Certainly like your song suggestion - thought about renaming the image with credit to you, but never got around to it. When you mentioned a book illustration - I realise that the ladies pose has an air of Paddington about it - the same posture and curiosity.
