This is really a reference to a story from last week in the UK, when Tesco supermarket went head to head with Unilever over the rising costs of products following the drastic fall in the pound. There were fears that we would have no marmite in the shops and I thought I was going to have to stockpile.
Actually I don't eat that much - but on this particular day, after I made the fresh bread, and was looking in the fridge for something to accompany it for lunch, the shelves were bare and I had to resort to marmite and bread for lunch.
This is also posted for Ivan who completes his project today and had much to say on the disaster of the vote to leave the EU. I am in much agreement Ivan and would gladly sacrifice marmite and more for a different result in Europe.
Haha this is definitely a UK thing, Marmite! I think? I did buy a little jar of it recently but it isn't something people are familiar with here... I like it actually. :) I enjoy this shot a lot, it's very cultural.
I'm a great lover of marmite. ....... but was greatly disturbed to hear you keep it in the fridge. It's far too hard to spread when it is cold. I may have to call the marmite police on you!
@janemartin fear not. I don't keep it in the fridge - I just looked in the fridge first to see what might be there and then proceeded to the cupboards when the fridge was not forthcoming.
It seems I learn something new on this 365 site every day and today it's marmite! I've looked into it and I think I can buy some here in Winnipeg so I plan on doing that this weekend so I can try it out. Nice shot and narrative. :-)
I like the shot. Nice composition. I had to look up marmite in the dictionary though. Had no idea what it was. It's really so nice to be on 365. I get to see and hear about a lot of things I never would have known before.
@kerosene Thanks Caroline, I never thought I was posting something cultural! Desperate was more in my mind. Hope you enjoy your little pot of marmite. Warm fresh bread, or toast, lots of butter and a modest amount of marmite. Love it or Hate it!
@gaylewood You are brave Gayle. People fall directly into two categories - Love it or Hate it. Hope you enjoy. Let me know. Remember to be sparing with it.
@helenhall Just found this, Helen, as I'm having a concluding look around 365. I love Marmite too - but agree I'd go without to stay in EU! We are however planning our next visit to Belgium and Germany, Brexit and the exchange rates notwithstanding. Life's too short - especially when you get into your 70s - not to do things you want to, if you can. The ones I feel rally sorry for are the younger people who will be hit hard, business and education opportunity wise by UK being cut off from ready access and integration with its nearest neighbours. Things may turn out better, and we'll have a 'soft' Brexit (whatever that means) - but our PM begins to cause me concern. Better stop now! Best wishes :)
