I thought the current artist challenge might be a good way to get me out of a rut not knowing where to turn my camera to since the excitement of being in Boston, New York and Cape Cod, and so have been out on a brief bit of urban exploration. Actually, I realised just how suburban we are, but I'm hoping that if I look hard enough, I will find the urban element.
I looked for a shot here at the town centre Auction Centre that is no more.
Normally, Peacocks on a Saturday would have been buzzing with excitement - vehicles, staff, onlookers and serious buyers competing for the tarmacked forecourt; furniture and assorted treasure being carried up and down the steps and chaos ensuing. The chip shop next door would be doing a roaring trade and the beeping of horns would prevail as frustration set in for drivers of the cars being held up in the narrow street waiting for the unloading and loading of goods.
Peacocks have moved out of town. And today, I was amongst a handful pausing and noticing the now unwelcome empty space and silence.
I was hoping to show more of the premises, but the light was against me and so this is what I got.
Absolutely loved your story Helen. I work in at an auction house, and can fully appreciated the inconvenience caused on auction day. It is a sad sign of the times that some town centres are slowly dying because the big names are moving out to the soulless edge of town retail centres.
