I have seen some great tributes to those who fought for our freedom, here on this site over the past couple of days. This has inspired me to want to do something similar.
Where does your mind go in a 2 minute silence?
After an initial reaction to count my way through the silence this morning, I got thinking about the critical role of peacemakers and negotiators. Mick reminded me yesterday, that whilst fighting stopped on the 11th hour of the 11th day in world war one, there were six months of negotiation to follow before the treaty of Versailles was signed.
So I want to pay tribute to the peace makers in today's world, as well as those who fought for our freedom.
The opportunity came, as I saw that some olive leaves that I had taken from one of the oldest olive trees (possibly THE oldest) in the world and have been pressing, had left their impression on the paper I had wrapped them in. So I photographed the impression. The leaf area has been highlighted with colour, before superimposing two of the poppy photographs that I took earlier on this year.
Beautifully made, poignant image. Fav. "Blessed are the peacemakers" - a good motto, even if one isn't specially religious. Peace ensures the way of life we value.
Such a beautiful image you created, I love how you have combined the 2 pictures together. During the 2 minutes I usually pray for the souls of all those who died in all wars, that they may rest in peace. Then I pray for the safety of troops of today. I am ashamed to say it has never occurred to me to pray for the peacemakers, whose role in war is crucial to restoring peace. I wish our world could find peace, it seems as elusive as ever sadly.
