rutabagas by helenhall

rutabagas

Left to grow a little longer than optimum, these swedes offered themselves as a textural shot from the vegetable patch of our friend's house yesterday.

I wanted to call this turnip texture, or even turnip with attitude, but it seems to me that it is a swede and not a turnip, and further investigation revealed that the swede is otherwise known as rutabagas - which I rather liked.

Boo
hahaha funny...especially for me in Sweden...I shall be forever known as a rutabagas hahahaha

The rutabaga gave you great texture but also an interesting pattern. I have never heard them called swedes before.

I love this - who would think a lowly root veg could make such an interesting abstract!

Wonderful textures, and its always nice to learn a new, rather exotic word

Ah! I thought I was looking at leaf scars until I read your commentary ... but then I guess these are leaf scars of a sort. I will look at my swedes more carefully next time.

@helenm2016 Yes, you are probably right. I don't know a lot about gardening but I would say these had grown rather more than they were supposed to before harvesting.
