These coots are in the habit of scooting as soon as they hear anything approaching. So the first I usually know about them is when they emerge from the rushes and scoot off quickly into the distance before the camera is remotely prepared to snap.
However, with them being hampered by ice, I managed to catch one.
I had fun adding some negative space to this image - trying to match the various markings on the icy background. A partial success.
There are lots more snowy pictures, but this is getting SO last weekend. So I will try and move on to something new from today.
