coot on ice

These coots are in the habit of scooting as soon as they hear anything approaching. So the first I usually know about them is when they emerge from the rushes and scoot off quickly into the distance before the camera is remotely prepared to snap.

However, with them being hampered by ice, I managed to catch one.

I had fun adding some negative space to this image - trying to match the various markings on the icy background. A partial success.

There are lots more snowy pictures, but this is getting SO last weekend. So I will try and move on to something new from today.
Endless fun watching coots scoot, I think its their big feet that amuse me the most

Is he dancing or trying to keep his feet off the cold ground?

This shot made me smile! Reading in your narrative about the scooting coots for some reason brings to mind a favorite country western song and dance . . . "Boot Scootin' Boogie"! :-)
