My mind has been occupied with this all week. I have been going to sleep worrying about it and getting up pondering over it. I have been scouring the internet and educating myself in the bottomless field of classical painting, pondering the distinction between that, and a classic painting.
I was on the verge of throwing the towel in on the 52 portraits of me challenge - I mean, I'm past the prime of youth, have short grey hair, no Victorian or Edwardian clothes, and am not prepared to go nude, so what to do?
I've considered all options from Lichtenstein to Leonardo with increasing desperation, and quite simply it is time I got my life back. So, last night, after further time spent tearing my hair out and screaming in distress, I came upon the obvious ...
My photoshop skills have been left wanting, and my sanity is barely in tact, but here is my imitation of The Scream by Edvard Munch.
PS on the plus side, I have delighted in being able to stretch my body into any shape required and apply a bit of lipstick, as I can do neither in real life
PPS spot the inner turmoil
I started to smile while reading your commentary, and then realised you were expressing thoughts which sometimes haunt me. I hope you have recovered from the plannig trauma ad now basking in the glory of a job well done.
I also considered this one but didn't think I would have the wardrobe or place to shoot it. I also spent too many hours pondering mine!
You did a fantastic job with it.
Oh, this is just amazing, Helen! I can't imagine how you created this, but your efforts certainly paid off. I love your commentary (as I always do). Well done!
I don't think I have ever had so many comments. And your enthusiasm and encouragement is quite astonishing. I really enjoyed reading your responses. Just so you know, my editing skills are quite rudimentary.
If it is of interest, I took the background from a boardwalk shot taken when in New England last year. There was one figure in about the right place which I stretched and duplicated. I took a self portrait of me dressed in black, and distorted it before adding to the scene. That was the fun bit - did you spot my large right eye? A couple of small boats came from a different photo and the messing around with the coloured background was crude work covering up the calm and far too realistic ocean in the background. Finally I added some paintbrush work to the board walk with a suggestion of the colours in the real artwork.
So sorry not to give individual responses, dear friends.
