Having dropped the car off for its MOT test (it failed), I set to - just me and my camera - on the hour's trek home, determined to take atleast a few pictures worthy to test out my renewed hopes of getting the raw files from my camera into readable format.
After the car drop, I found myself negotiating unprecedented amounts of mud, puddles and bogginess which my lightweight walking boots were ill-equipped to cope with. With the squelch of mud beneath my feet, and my eyes fixed firmly on finding solid ground (in a relative sense) all effort was required to stay upright. Photographic opportunity was limited to a single robin, to which I was unable to creep close enough to merit a half decent picture, without negotiating a newly formed lake around the tree in which it sang. I gave up.
As I arrived at the home straight, and faced another line of deep brown muddy puddles, reaching into the beyond, for the first time this week, levitation seemed a good way forward.
Had I known the injury and angst that such seemingly effortless flight above the watery path would entail, that idea would have left me more quickly than it did.
I might just put the outtakes in my extra album later!
this looks so natural, Helen, i.e. like you were actually flying over the puddle, muddy boots and all! moreover, the lighting is perfect! and that's what I've been saying all along with this layering thing. the lighting on you must be the same, both in direction and intensity, as well as the colour tones, to make the photo believable, like you did here. of course, the more sophisticated examples are domenico's photobombing the classics series. aces! aces! aces!
@summerfield thanks for the observations. I was lucky with the lighting - it being dull grey and overcast - no shadows or strong light to deal with. I was aware of the problem before but without the time or skills to deal with it. Lets all go round to Domenicos for lessons!
@rosiekind the answer, Rosie, is that I did it in a most ungainly fashion! Yes Priory Country park, the wall alongside the marina. A bit wet round there right now!
My you are so bold with these! Ditto to all the accolades above and a fantastic job on merging your flying self and the scene you wished to escape from!
The Booted Bedford Bird is about to make an emergency landing in a puddle. Expect splashing and mud flinging. This is an exciting sighting, as it is reported that this bird has not been seen behaving in this fashion before. Ornithologists are on the prowl, but unfortunately the bird in question has gone into hiding. If anyone finds a pair of muddy squishy boots, they are encouraged to come forward in the hope that a search can be implemented.
Oh my! Oh my! Just incredible. I was so in awe of your hands and was curious how you could have done thid. Then I saw that you laid on a fence good balance. I so love the comments of @ethelperry I will be in the lookout for muddy, squishy boots. I love, love, live this !!
Dear Friends - you know just how to build me up when my confidence is low. Your enthusiasm for my escapade here delights me and although I am certain it is quite out of proportion to the actual results, I am nevertheless most grateful. Thank you.
@ethelperry Ha! Quite so, after such a public display, this booted Bedford Bird has indeed going into hiding.
@kjarn Oh yes, a much speedier and more pleasant journey thank you. @olivetreeann no offense taken at all. no worries!
Oh, yes! This did turn out great in the end! Getting there was quite an experience
Your writing is fun, too. When I'm in "writing mode", it reminds me of how I'd say it, or look at it.
