Waiting for the storm by helenhall

Waiting for the storm

I waited until five pm, when we were forecast to have a thunderstorm, before going out in the hope of a dramatic sky and some refreshing rainfall.

Initially, the sky was covered in a uniform light grey and there was little indication of storm. But soon, the birds began to get agitated, and gusts of cooling wind started to lift up the crisp brown layer of parched leaves up for a brief whirl. And I waited.

There were some rumblings of thunder, and a poor attempt at rain. The clouds have forgotten how to open over our town.

And then the humidity and high temperature were back.

Just now, the cloud cover looks set to obscure the lunar eclipse, and the blood moon that is promised. I had planned a drive out to the countryside to see what I could see.
I know this pyramid & this is a fantastic shot Helen ... instant Fav

Great shot

How cool is that pyramid. We must have had your share of the rain, it absolutely threw it down here

@dizzyd
thank you Helen, you will appreciate how much more charming it looks in dim light!
@maggiemae @suzanne234 the pyramid was cool for the first year or so after it was put up but it is now in a very poor state of repair and the moat around it is full of rubbish and slime when I last looked, as opposed to water. The structure houses a beach style swimming pool (with a wave machine) and a gym. Built around 1990 as part of the deal for allowing Tesco superstore to build on adjacent land. Most definitely not Eygpt!

A very atmospheric image, love the sky and thanks for explaining about the pyramid, it certainly didn't look like a slice of English countryside!

wow well there's drama here with the wonderful pyramid and that slightly tetchy looking sky. we are forecast rain in the morning and i have to say i would quite like some - and the garden is desperate

The architecture is certainly interesting! I'm wondering if you put this in black and white you'd capture some more of the drama in the sky. Cool shot! (Now I'm humming "Walk Like an Egyptian"!)

Wow a cool image

How unusual to see a pyramid in your part of the world. Hope you had more rain.
We didn't see the lunar eclipse here either, too much cloud cover.

Full of natural foreboding...

I love the bird wheeling about looking for a safe harbor or another meal.

Lovely scene from your vantage point - nice light and faint light rays. we have had rain for the last few days, very heavy last night, and today we have had thunder and more heavy downpours. interspersed with more sun.

A super dramatic sky capture. Thanks for the explanation about the pyramid. It looks very out of place in the English countryside.

Oh so interesting, It's a real pyramid! I thought this was a form of geometric landscaping at first:)

Promising sky... but just as in the north of Holland almost no rain came out of it.

Dramatic, especially with the pyramid.
