Quiver Tree by helenhall

Quiver Tree

Just beyond the rocky terrain of the Kuisib valley and the vast flat sand plains reappear. Another brief stop at a picnic area (alas, we had no picnic) allowed us to view the prominent Quiver trees that were situated along the course of where the river once flowed. Apparently the Quiver trees save themselves in times of severe drought by effectively cutting off thier own branches, thereby saving moisture loss.
I think quiver trees are fascinating and always stand out in the landscape.
