The Old St Paul's was completely destroyed in the great fire of London 1666. Sir Christopher Wren's plans to make improvements and include a central dome, had just been approved.
Instead he had to start from scratch - nine years in the planning, and three decades in the building. Considered a masterpiece, I can't help but agree. Enjoyed some time admiring the cathedral from both inside and out this last weekend. It remains an important landmark in London despite the many tall glass buildings that surround and dwarf it.
PS - I'm rather pleased with the way I have managed to remove a large ugly lamp post from this scene. Can you tell?
@hazydaze@caterina@gaf005@samae@janetb Many thanks - of course I can see where the edit is for sure. I did think that removing the green triangle of tree top from the image would be very beneficial - but I hadn't the confidence to attempt that.
A truly unique and interesting view of St. Paul's dome. I love the reflections. And, no, I can't tell at all that there was once a lamp post there. Fav
Excellent erasing job- had you not said anything I would never have known. Great shot- and I always think of "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins when I see this church.
