Approaching Barra from Oban

One of the things we wanted to do on our one full day on Bara was to climb this mountain (seen from the ferry here}. But we have had a bit of a problem with the weather. our first night camping was a disaster. the campsite was a beautiful spot and we congratulated ourselves prematurely as we managed to pitch the tent without the disturbance of rain, prepare a meal and take an evening walk before settling down for the night.

The wind speed increased, the rain started to fall and by 2 am we realised that we were in a pool of water which proceeded to fall directly through the roof of the tent. The rest of the night was spent in the car, surrounded by wet belongings and sleeping bags. A total of 40 mins sleep all night for me!

this is the first time since arriving that we have been able to connect to the internet. So sorry that I have been unable to view or respond to your posts. There is little opportunity whilst I am away.
what a stunning scene and amazing cloud around the mountain

I'm sure a lot of people will have had the same experience with camping and weather but at our (my) age, I am sure a 5 star hotel is much better! Incredible cloud shot! fav

Luckily you had a car where you could hide. What if you were bicycles! Appreciate what you have. Beautiful capture and a wonderful adventure that you will remember for a long time.

@haskar Yes. I certainly do appreciate what we have ... although i am still suffering rib pain from that night in the car. We have seen others with similar predicaments ... a young couple whose tent was not lasting out but were unlikely to be able to bail out with a more expensive solution, and an older couple on bikes who were making their way up the hill we were descending having taken an inappropriate short cut. They still had many miles to go on difficult terrain and looked exhausted. As it is, we were able to have a roof over our heads for remaining nights of bad weather. Most grateful.

I was about to admire the cloud formation you have taken, but then read about your experience! Hope you are feeling better and drier by the time you read my comment!

Your narrative is so enthralling! And the photo of the sky is amazing. Fav. I will follow your trip from the warmth of my home, not without some envy for your athleticism
