Tidying my sewing box

The idea for this shot came to me after the strawberries pic last month http://365project.org/helenm2016/365/2016-04-22 But this shot was SO much more difficult to do.

At the concept stage, I hadn't accounted for the fact that the ends of the reels on left and right would curve outwards due to perspective nor that, unlike the strawberries, the items being in a regular array would mean that they need a frame of some sort around them. I.e. the reels can't just flow out of the picture frame as the strawberries did.

I minimised the curvature of the ends of the reels as much as I could by zooming in but still they are not satisfactory.

I also learnt a lot about lighting: how harsh direct light is (not this shot but one of the failures) and how a dark background sets off the bright colours better than a white background did.
A beautiful palette of colours, love the pov. I wish my threads were as neat as this :)

They look wonderful. And you also have a very tidy set of cotton reels now. Strange how unexpectedly difficult some shots are.

interesting to read how much thought and experiment went into the shot, which looks deceptively simple. like the needle!
