It lives in a big cardboard box in the Village Hall and comes out for every fete, show and party. Here it is draped through the cherry trees at the front of school for the today's Day of Dance to celebrate May Day. Amazing how a few brightly-coloured triangles of plastic can evoke such a sense of celebration!
You caption makes this a classic! I remember reading a Dick Francis novel where there had been some racecourse drama and a man was called who had a "Big Top" to erect temporary shelter. He arrived with the necessary tent, but miles and miles of bunting too. He explained that when people see bunting they automatically think "fun" and will then overlook the obvious shortfalls of the situation.
LOVE the title...the Village Bunting......Hmmm...this got me thinking...since May 1 is often a day of dance and/or celebration around the world, I wonder why the phrase "May Day" came to be a distress signal. Am sure someone out here in 365-land must know the reason for that :-) Guess I could "google" it but I am off to run some errands.
Did u do any dancing, was it a nice day? My telephone boxes are a bit dull considering it supposed to be a day of celebration! But maybe a little celebration of old fashioned telephone boxes is no bad thing!
