Back from my week end off-duty, I took Will to his cricket match this evening in Foxton. During part of the game I took the dogs for a walk. There are some lovely thatched cottages in the village, and also houses with very pretty pargeting - a form of decorative plasterwork - usually associated with Suffolk, but also often found in South Cambridgeshire and North Essex. I wish I could remember what this flower is called that was growing in a planter at the base of the wall.
I LOVE this! Our neighbor's home (in California) is on zero property line, so we have a large blank wall on one side of the yard (not so bad in that we have a lot of trees and growth there)... That said, I'd LOVE to cover that wall in this manner...how beautiful that would be! I don't imagine we have any of those artisans in Southern California... Our loss...
Like it, not seen this sort of plaster decoration before, looks lovely! Yep, I would say that's ladies slipper, got some growing out the garden wall here!
This is so pretty -- I've never seen this type of decoration before but I like it very much.
I don't recognize the beautiful pink flowers but it isn't what we call Lady Slipper. The "lady slipper" flower I know grows in shady wooded areas and is a wild member of the orchid family. Whatever the flower's name it is a beautiful pink flower. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I thought ladies slipper was an orchid too - I've just looked this up and I think it's red valerian - maybe ladies slipper is one of its "common" names?
