I had a few minutes in Cambridge this afternoon while Will was at drum lesson and had the brilliant idea of taking a picture of a beautiful sun-dial built onto the wall of a university building in town - thus cleverly capturing the SHADOW of the gnomen (I love that word!). Only problem was, after running there and whipping out my camera, the sun went in behind a big fat cloud. No sun, no shadow. So I had to turn around and run back to the school in time for the end of the lesson. Of course, just as I got back, the sun popped out and there were shadows everywhere again. Mocking me! So this pretty gate shadow was my consolation prize. It's been that kind of day.
Isn't there a song about chasing shadows? Could be there's a lot of that going around on 365 this week! If this is a substitute, it's a pretty terrific one! I believe I saw this on the popular page earlier today!
When you said Will had his drum class, I thought of my Ashley's picture yesterday. http://365project.org/lulu/365/2010-05-25 Maybe you'd be so kind as to leave her a comment...she's only recently started leaving pictures. What sort of drums does Will play? Ash met her husband, John, in a drum class over 6 years ago, and now they share a stage together!
This is very twirly and lovely! What a shame about the sun dial and lack of sun, good idea for shadow theme and 'gnomon' is now a new entry in my top ten fav words chart, and how do people tell the time with a sun dial when the goes in???
Mmmm, good question...let me see, I think it must be that time simply stops when the sun goes in and starts again when it comes out. That's why rainy days always seem to last much longer than sunny ones! Yep, you can tell I'm a trained scientist!
