After several days of sunshine and some heavy rain the garden is going bananas. Apart from my wisteria wall, there are only really have two things that do well in the challenging conditions of my garden (heavy clay soil, big dogs and sporadic neglect). These are rambling roses and hardy geraniums. So I have lots of both of them in the hope that sheer quantity will cover up for lack of finesse. Hardy geraniums are also known as cranesbill. This picture is dedicated to my friend Rachel, a skilled gardener who helps me out and is especially good at keeping rampant shrubs under control!
Helen, I just read about your boat! That is so cool. I think we need to do this! We have lived on a boat for a large part of our lives. This is perfect - if I could just sell the house. I am going to go look on yachtworld.com to check them out!
I thought those looked familiar...we have pink geraniums, and after a closer look, I recognize the leaves. In fits and starts since late this afternoon, I've come by your picture, but kept being sidetracked and only now am I getting back to comment! It's so nice that you've dedicated your picture to your friend and fellow gardener. Nothing like a good friend, and one with whom you share a kindred interest!
These are lovely to have in the garden. As you say they are tough as old boots, cut them back and up they come again. Nicely photographed and lovely detail.
