I took the dogs for an eight mile walk this morning, following the route of a hike that Will is planning to do with his Scout group - checking it out for hazards like dangerous roads (not that I'm a neurotic Mum or anything!). Walking through Histon, I turned a corner and came across a menagerie of metal animal sculptures in the front garden of an ordinary house. I noticed the sculptor was out working in his garden - putting the back leg on a lion - and stopped for a chat. Most of these pieces are going to various schools - but the giraffe is a permanent resident- last Spring, he told me, a pair of pigeons built their nest inside its head! We had a lovely chat and he was very happy for me to take photos for my 365 project. The pictures didn't turn out as well as I hoped and don't really do justice to the magnificent metal beasts, but it was such a fun find that I had to put this on for today.
Wow...I am impressed on 2 fronts...first that you took what you called an 8 mile *walk" and also that you not only made this discovery but chatted with the sculptor. How cool on both accounts!!! I feel like a lazybones...all I did was hang out at the pool for 2 hours...only paddled around for a few minutes every time I got too hot sitting and reading poolside!!!
The half conversation thing is funny, so is turning the corner to find a man fixing the back leg of a lion, and pigeons nesting in giraffe's head....brilliant, they're great sculptures, would love to make these, be great fun welding, bit like soldering but on a bigger scale...inspiring!
