I love getting slightly lost and finding new corners. Today I set out from Haslingfield with the dogs on a walk we'd not done before. We proceeded happily along Porkers Lane (ha!) expecting to end up in Hauxton, but took a wrong turn across a wheat field and found ourselves walking along Button End into the village of Harston instead (there is a mini Bermuda Triangle in South Cambridgeshire, of villages that begin with the letter H - there is also a Harlton. One person in our family who shall remain anonymous but whose name begins with a W finds this ANNOYING in a way that only he can be annoyed by life's small anomalies!). In Harston, I was rewarded by this lovely corner; a Victorian postbox (VR) on the gatepost of the village church, with a backdrop of Victorian gravestones and chestnut trees.
My first thought was WHY does a cemetery need a postbox?
The angel on the gravestone in the background is awesome -- I've never seen a stone done in this way before.
I love reading of your meanderings and all you came across! In the end, this made a lovely picture...you, in England, have such charming post boxes! Doesn't hurt to have a pretty setting, as who amongst us isn't drawn to cemetaries and gravestones for good photo choices!
