Nature's Christmas Baubles

These golf-ball sized burrs are the stickiest objects in the universe - think velcro on steroids. They have been driving me crazy for weeks, clinging to my clothes and the dogs' fur whenever we are out walking. When you try to remove them they break down into hundreds of tiny little hooks that are even more tenacious than the whole, and once they have their hooks into a sock, even a boil-wash won't get them out. But this morning, as a hard frost melted in the sun, they looked stunning - just like Christmas baubles - and I almost forgave them. Almost!
