Washing your clothing or anything else, including yourself, is quite a mission in Imizamo Yethu. First you have to go up the mountain to one of the communal taps to fetch water as there is no running water in your house and then you have to carry buckets back down or opt for washing at the tap. But for these 2 neighbours it's part of life and they invited me to share tea.
What a great photo. This hits close to home right now as our hot water heater is broken and won't be fixed until Friday....trying to convince my kiddos it's not a big deal and we can roll with the cold showers for awhile. I'm going to show them this photo.
what hard work, I have done several loads of washing since I got back home, alI have to do is put in the machine and press a button! great shot like the b & w.
I love images like this, great capture. There's something so mysterious about getting a glimpse into another world. We take so much for granted here. Thanks for sharing!!
I thought I commented on this one when you put it up... Anyway.. I love a good slice of everyday life picture and this one says a lot. The women have such beautiful friendly faces. Even doing a chore and they still seem to invite you to talk with them. Great shot!
Wonderful capture!
