US Civil War Era by hjbenson

US Civil War Era

The photograph is my ancestor< William Schuller, who enlisted in St. Paul, Minnesota during the Civil War. The photo is about 20 years later with him wearing his GAR medal. The pistol is from Gail's ancestor, Joseph Lembert, who enlisted in New York City, New York. The pistol has his initials on it and he allegedly used it during the Civil War.

To see my other photo for today http://365project.org/hjbenson/others/2012-01-19

@pamfromcalgary Thank you Pam, since they are from the same era, I felt that they would complement each other
@sdpace Thank you Stacy, the photograph was given originally to my Mother before I was born and passed down to me; the gun we found in Gail's Grandparent's house when we were cleaning it - no living person knew it was there - we were lucky on that one.

How neat to have this kind of memorabilia from family ancestors. It makes a nice presentation to lay the pistol on top of the picture that way.

History becomes so much richer when you can personalize it with heirlooms that you have. Few people realize that photos are part of those heirlooms.

Great story behind this Harry. Thanks for sharing.
