During the 18th and 19th Century in Southern New Jersey, the land was crisscrossed with trails that teams of oxen would pull their loads along. Some of the trails became our current roads and highways, while others were abandon. Here whenever two major ones crossed trees were planted as trail markers - this is one of those trees.
Retired educator - taught mathematics in high school, went back to graduate school, worked in research labs, and finally went back and taught computer science...

Wow great story! I never really though of such trails on the East coast but now that I know of them, of course it makes absolute sense that they are there. Thanks for sharing
