Dilemma. by hmgphotos

Dilemma.

What, you mean you don't also have a bunch of film in your freezer next to your frozen broccoli and butter?!

Well, this is my last roll of Kodachrome-64. And I have a dilemma. I originally bought 3 rolls, intending on shooting two, and saving one for all eternity. But what's the point of saving a roll of film that after December 30th will never be able to be processed? So I'm thinking I want to shoot it. Which gave me two ideas: either shoot it and get it processed, or shoot it and never process it. But then again, what's the point of that?! Why use the film if I can't see the results, right?

And I feel like I have to shoot it now because I have two photos of my cat Ari on the roll I just finished shooting, and none of my cat Sammie. Gotta be a fair kitty parent, right? LOL!

This roll is thawing for a day or so in the fridge, then another day on the counter, and it'll be ready to go. All my rolls have to be at Dwayne's Photo by noon on December 30th in order to be processed.

I vote shoot it... makes no sense to hold it... kinda like the people who saved Beta tapes... the magic is in the slides not the can...

I say use it! Why waste the film?

@icywarm @kerristephens Yep, I'm pretty sure I am going to shoot it! Just gotta think of what I want to take photos of. Kind of a bland time of year, but I'll make it work.

I am scouring ebay for some cheap rolls right now. I really want a box, when I bought mine they just came in canisters. So I might pick up a few extra rolls, and maybe I'll save one of those.

What's funny about all of this is I don't even really like the results of Kodachrome... I'm just shooting it as a "OMG I can't do this soon!" fad. I like Velvia a whole lot more, so I'm better off spending my money replenishing my 120 film supplies...

@hmgphotos good to know... I was about to bid on a roll, no point out bidding you...(or vice versa)... If you get a box... I can toss you some cash for a roll and express post to canada...(mail is slow this time of year and I would need to get it, shoot it and mail it) would be tight!

@icywarm Well, the stuff I was eyeing just jumped from $2.75 to over $20 with 45 minutes left, so it's going to go out of my budget quickly. So I'm not sure how much I will pursue getting some at this point... Not to mention I have to factor in processing, which isn't that cheap. Damn film... haha.

Ah you must shoot it!

I have some as well, but will be unable to shoot it, as it/me are in two different countries. :(

@crappysailor I'm planning on shooting it once it's thawed. It's just film after all, might as well use it. Just hope I have lots of sunny days when that time comes, iso64 is kind of a pain in that aspect.

@barrymikhal Haha, I guess we'll see. This was my first roll I shot earlier this fall: http://www.hmgphotos.com/Film/Kodachrome64-Roll-1/13992576_xdp7j#1029008028_cHQrg Just random stuff, and up in the mountains. Nothing great. I don't like the overall greenish hue to them, but I guess it's typical of the film

It's like a rare wine that you're being forced to open - nothing to do now but enjoy it :)
I vote shoot it!
