My Get Pushed challenge for this week is to highlight anything from my town that distinguishes it from other towns. Because Sanford sits where white beach sand from the coast meets the Piedmont clay, the city has the right ingredients to be a large producer of clay bricks. In 1959, Sanford produced 10% of the bricks in the United States and was named "Brick Capital of the USA." There are still two companies that manufacture bricks in Sanford today, including Lee Brick & Tile. In my collage, the background is the handcrafted bricks the company makes. I tried to show a sample of what they had on display, as well as the Piedmont clay because I knew that just one picture wouldn't do this challenge justice. The clay looks more orange because it's been a few days since we've had any rain. It looks a deeper red when it is wet.
@olivetreeann Thanks. Maybe I should pitch this to them as an ad campaign! LOL! @swilde Thanks! As far as I know, this is the only unusual thing we have.
