My Get Pushed Challenge for this week is to take a black and white architecture shot. So, I looked up plantations on the internet to see if there were any old plantations in the area (being in the South, I kind of thought there might be). And, there was one just 10 miles from my house. So, I'm thinking Civil War era....no, it's from the Revolutionary War and a battle was fought here between local Patriots who were training here for the war and local Tories. The Tories won this skirmish and eventually the landowner and Patriot commander left the area in humiliation. The site later became home to a NC governor. It's now a NC State Historical Site called House-in-the-Horseshoe, because it sits in a horseshoe bend of the nearby Deep River. The house still has bullet holes in it from the Revolutionary War skirmish.
@willowdragon@amandal Thanks. Other than the reddish-orange brick this area is famous for, it was basically a white house. The only real color was the fall trees.
