It's a bug, it's a crab......

...no, it's turmeric! My Get Pushed challenge this week is to post a picture SOOC. So, here's another shot SOOC, not editing at all. It's some fresh turmeric I got yesterday. I was quite surprised when it arrived in the box with my fresh, local vegetables. I really thought it would be in a bottle, ground up. I hope I can freeze it. I'll never use a bag of it in 3 weeks.
All I know is, it's ugly. LOL good shot

@sarasdadandmom Yes, it's a rather homely root isn't it! LOL!

Didn't realize it but it has been used for many a variety of medicinal purposes

Well you learn something every day! I've never thought to as what it looked like when harvested although I did know that it was a ground-up root. Looks a bit like a Jerusalem Artichoke... very interesting.

@camisze @digitalrn @vignouse I pulled it out of my cooler of vegetables and said, "What on earth is that?" LOL!

How odd!

Boy it is strange looking! Who knew? I imagine you can grate it and refrigerate it like any other tuber.

This is a new one on me. Nice close-up. How do you use it?

@swilde Yes, it is. Doesn't look very appealing to eat, does it? LOL!
@olivetreeann Yes, but I got so much of it. I broke it up and put it in the freezer. It only lasts 3 weeks in the fridge.
@paulam Thanks.
@randystreat I've only used it as powder. Mostly it's used like ginger (it's related to ginger). The powder is often put into rice to make it yellow. Apparently, it's very good for you.
