Yesterday morning, I got to do something rather fabulous. I got to record a song I wrote nearly 10 years ago after the worship pastor at that church said he didn't like most Memorial Day songs because they don't include Jesus dying first.
Our current worship pastor and another one of the worship band members helped with the technical expertise. They hooked up the church's keyboard to a computer. I played the song. Then they did some adjustments to make the sound quality better. And they handed me my song on a thumb drive. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to get it on my phone, so I can since it for a memorial service for a soldier from our church who was killed in action before we arrived. But they are dedicating a stone in his memory at a cross in between two of the buildings. I've played and sang this song for Memorial Day at other churches we've attended, but I've not done it here because of the high number of military in our congregation.
It was very exciting to record the song, but it's going to be an honor to sing it during the memorial for Sam Harriston on Sept. 24.
"He Died First"
He grew up playing Army with the other neighbor boys,
dreaming of the day he'd wear a hero's uniform.
Years go by and one day, he was charging up a hill.
Bullets flying all around, this time it was for real.
He died there, after making his way up the hill.
Wounded and tired, he fought for freedom till the end.
The hero's sacrifice was not made in vain.
The battle turned, the war was won that victorious day.
And we remember him today.
He died there up that hill. He died there.
He was only a tiny babe when he came to be our King,
dreaming of the day He'd reign with His Father on high.
He taught and healed the sick until He walked up Calvary's hill,
Insults hurled from those around, and a cross He had to bear.
He died there. After making His way up the hill.
Wounded and tired because He carried all our sins.
Our Savior's sacrifice was not made in vain.
The blood He shed upon that cross gives us eternal life.
And we remember Him today.
He died there upon that hill.
He died there.
Today we honor those who fought for our rights.
But we never should forget that God's Son died first for all mankind.
He did first after making His way up the hill.
Wounded and tired because He carried all our sins.
Our Savior's sacrifice was not made in vain.
The blood He shed upon that cross gives us eternal life.
And we remember Him today.
He died first upon that hill.
He died first upon the cross.
He died first.
@alophoto If I could ever figure out technology, maybe one day you can! LOL! Right now, I can't even figure out how to get it on my phone to hook to the sound system.
@lsquared The thumb drive only has the piano part, but I'd have no idea how to do that. Would it just be an attachment? I'm not really tech savvy. Do you know Copper Creek Church behind Anderson Hospital in Maryville (old Maryville 1st Baptist Church)? That's where I was going to church when I wrote this.
@homeschoolmom I do not know Copper Creek Church..but I'm sure I've driven past it countless times. Just around the corner from where we live. My son (now 17y/o) was born at Anderson Hosp.
