Very creative! This is the first gif I have seen done with an inanimate object. Most are with pets or raindrops, the sort of thing that is in motion.
To do a gif of something moving, just set your camera to continuous so it takes photos in sequence, and then snap away following something (or in the case of rain just snap away) and voila you have the hardest part of the gif done.
