Weird Science!

I'm fairly certain this tomato is not a product of nature, but a product of man's ingenuity. I believe it's a chocolate tomato (no, they don't taste like chocolate, just are rather brown when they are completely ripened), but I'm not totally certain. It came in my weekly local vegetable delivery Wednesday, listed as various heirloom tomatoes.
Fabulous shot.

This looks like what they call an heirloom tomato. DH loves them. I love your background. A Tuscan kitchen?

@thresheg @lynne5477 Thanks!
@randystreat Thanks, I wish it was a Tuscan kitchen! Just a granite counter top. So, it is an heirloom? I've never seen one that looked like this one.

I love chocolate tomatoes. I buy them when we don't have good tomatoes here in Maine (most of the time).

@joansmor I've only had the small cherry tomato size chocolate tomatoes. I've never seen one this big. It's almost the size of a beefsteak tomato. I can't wait to eat it. Almost looks ripe. Maybe for dinner tonight.
@pinkpaintpot It's more red now, actually it's a purplish/brownish color. More ripe now.
@randystreat I learn something new every day! LOL!
